Using provenance in the search for relevant spatial data

Spatial Knowledge Infrastructure (SKI) expands the current spatial data infrastructure model to a model that creates an autonomous network of data, analytics, expertise and policies that assists end users to integrate spatial knowledge in real-time. In such an SKI, data and knowledge must be exposed for the semantic web by which the data and processes become discoverable by search engines and can be queried by dedicated machines.

Documenting provenance in an automated federation of spatial information

Many applications require distributed authoritative spatial data to be joined, either because activities occur at borders, or a uniform view of data is required. The required syntactic and semantic harmonization can be done in various locations in an information architecture. Due to the jurisdictions having different spatial data schemas and formats, database interoperability is an issue.

Determine trust from the source of a dataset in a data conflation service

Many organizations acquire data about the same real world object in varied context (e.g. a shopping centre for ‘cadastre’ is not the same as a shopping centre for the fire department). Moreover, each agency believes that their information is the best and is unwilling to compromise on their perception of what is truth.

Associating ISO19115-1 items with a provenance query service #2

Introduction

This pattern is a sibling of Pattern 25 and is another way to link datasets described with ISO19115-1 records to provenance query services.

Associating ISO19115-1 items with a provenance query service

Introduction

Organisations wishing to associate items in an ISO19115-1-conformant catalogue with graph-based provenance delivered by a provenance query service (likely a SPARQL service) may wish to make the link to that service as visible as possible to people used to the ISO19115-1 norms. Since ISO19115-1 typically uses the Lineage field for structured or un-structured lineage information (provenance), this pattern suggests making that link to the provenance query service in that field.
